What the Sky Capsule is
The Haeundae Sky Capsule is a set of bright, boxy cabins that glide on an elevated track along Busan's old coastal railway. Each capsule holds two to four people, giving you a private, slow-moving window over the sea. It runs between Mipo in Haeundae and Cheongsapo and has become one of Korea's most photographed rides, which is precisely why getting on takes a little planning.
The route
The capsule travels a scenic stretch from Mipo Station past the coast to Cheongsapo. The views of the water, the beach and the lighthouse at the far end are the whole point. It is a short, gentle ride built for looking, not for speed.
How tickets work
Tickets are sold per capsule, not per head, so a group of four splits the cost of the cabin. You can choose a one-way trip or a round trip. Because each capsule seats so few people, total capacity is small and daily slots run out fast, especially on weekends and holidays.
How to guarantee a slot
Walk-up tickets at the Mipo counter are possible early in the day, but by late morning on busy days they are often gone. The reliable options are booking online in advance or joining a guided tour that reserves capsule slots as part of the package. See the tours that include it on the city tours page.
Best time to ride
Go early to secure a slot, or aim for the golden hour before sunset for the best light over the sea. Weekdays are far calmer than weekends.
Sky Capsule or Beach Train?
If the capsules are sold out, the Beach Train covers the same route at ground level and rarely runs out. Many riders take one each way. For the full comparison, read Sky Capsule vs Beach Train.
Make it part of a bigger day
The Sky Capsule sits right by Haeundae Beach and near Haedong Yonggungsa, so it slots neatly into a coastal day. Book the capsule element first, since it is the one piece that reliably sells out.
Frequently asked questions
You can buy at the Mipo Station counter in Haeundae, but slots sell out. Booking online in advance or through a guided tour with a reserved capsule is far more reliable.
Prices are set per capsule rather than per person, so the cost is shared among the two to four riders, making it better value with a full capsule.
The Sky Capsule runs along the old coastal railway between Mipo in Haeundae and Cheongsapo, with sea views the whole way.
